What Makes a Ritual Different From a Habit?
Anthropologists like to disagree about most things, so you'll find many definitions of ritual. I mean those repetitive sequences of action that we consider to be very special and yet either we have no explicit reason for doing them or even when we do, there's no connection between the means and the goals. So what makes a ritual different from a habit? I'm going to say someone who brushes their teeth every day. And that's a good example because it has a clear utilitarian function and the actions are causally connected to the outcome.
