Socrates Soul Could Have Been Joined to an Alligator Body?

In his book, The Nature of Necessity, he considers the question of whether Socrates could have been an alligator. From what I recall where he comes down on that question is in one sense yes and in another sense no. Our souls naturally have powers that could not be adequately expressed with cockroach brains and bodies or behavioral repertoire. Whether it's like metaphysically impossible for God to miraculously do that kind of thing isn't clear to me.
