A Brief History of the Communal Mass
The most common day for the sociato mass was the first sunday of the month, a practice that may go back to ancient roman and jewish observance of the new moon. The flagelants of pisa met in the dominican church of santa caacatrin catarina on the fourth Sunday of the month. On those days, like other confraternities, they maintained a perpetual lamp before their patron saint's image. At santa lario, near florence, the peasants of one such community met in the a church and then dined under the direction of their rectors.
