Nate: I think what we could move toward from this is that mat is expressing like a sort of humility mixed with a kind of compassion for something that he doesn't totally understand. One thing that often strikes me about conservatives, including conservatives that i know, and the conservative movement as manifest in politics, is that sometimes you can be very unhumble and hubristic in relying on your sentiments. Nates: There's a limit to the anti rationalism impulse that has characterized at least the anglo american conservative tradition. You have to use reason but also being able to think beyond pre rational impulses.
