How to Read a New Topic

When you're reading books, do you ever feel like if it's a new topic? I'm trying to transition this to like real life stuff, what it means. And I find it challenging sometimes to do that. But the second or third time through, or down the line as your knowledge base grows, then you're able to breeze through it more because you just have more familiarity with it.
