Bill Langer and the U.S. Senate

After he was elected to the Senate in 1940, Bill Langer was tentatively sworn in to take his seat. The Senate immediately started a formal investigation into whether he was actually fit to serve in that body. He was charged with being financially corrupt and moral turpitude. At the end of their investigation, the committee accused him of having a continuous, contemptuous, and shameful disregard for high concepts of public duty.
