Is the Ultramarth Xenomorph a Deacon?
The Ultramarth would have been closer in design to the original Xenomorph. The Deacon was kind of a disappointment, but it wasn't as bad as you think. A much more thorough book that I would recommend is Alien the archive,. That was written by Mark Salisbury and signed by Sigourney Weaver.
