The Porosity of the Mind
Bob Greene: IFS, as we've talked about it, has this idea of of a multiple, multiple minded multiple part of the self. There's also this this notion that the mind is porous in a way that's different from our default understanding of in the kind of intellectual tradition, the west of the mind is like a sealed discrete entity. This denial of our natural porosity actually makes us very, very fragile. In Ghana, they have a cultural expectation that they will be able to communicate with nature and spirit. So when they hear a voice, it's sort of okay. It's not a shattering experience. That experience of something coming into them is not destructive in the same way
