The Passion of Bell Ringing
I went to chapel until I developed a fascination with bell ringing when I was about eight. If you joined the choir at church, you got 18 pence a month, which was how. And so I went to church for a while. But then I decided I was going back to chapel where the Reverend Billy Baker would tell us stories and they were Christian union groups. When Dick Saunders came to town, everybody went to the Dick Saunders crusade. It felt worse to say I was crossing the other side of the street than to just say I was going to be a heath an unbeliever.
