The Importance of Competition in the EU

I'm very keen that we get the international policy on the agenda in a trade policy. The way the single market operated, the competition rules inside the EU are absolutely vital. I never saw any point at all in leaving the EU where you're escaping being fettered by competition policy to give those policies up to the WTO or any anyone else. My criticism of free trade purists is that they put their ideology ahead of national interest. And certainly multinational interest is not the same as national interest. But I think reality actually is on our side and my best argument for changing the policy is to just notice where we are now, which is not working.
