I was always reading yates. The idea that a book is capable of crossing borders in the same way as a bird. And then obviously ies the figure of joyce. And ther's the great stories and the great novel ulysses. But it's never just been confined to that. In recent years, some one like george eliot or jane austen has been really, really important for me.
