Jesus Proclaims Good News to the Poor

When Jesus began his ministry he did so by reading from the scroll of Isaiah as in a Nazarene synagogue when he was 30 years old. The poor are the only people group singled out by Jesus when he describes his mission. But Jesus equally does seem particularly concerned that the poor know that this good news is for them. Martin Luther King Jr. said our missionary efforts fail when they are based on pity rather than compassion.
