Did She Die From Syphlidic Sores?

Maggie Cope one of the police court rounders had thrown a pail of hot water over several persons. She was arrested and while being escorted to the cells she stumbled and fell. The officer thought it was merely a drunken stupor and stopped the cart and dumped the woman into it. On reaching City Hall she was found to be dead. Her body was marked with syphlidic sores which made the undertakers men handle it very gingerly. Cause of death was apoplexy. No inquest was necessary.
