In ancient Greece, Socrates groused about how writing and reading were a slippery slope into laziness. In the 1700s in particular, reading popular novels was going to rot young people's brains. Zippers may have been associated with laziness because it was too easy to get in and out of clothes. The printing press was going to allow for false prophets to print satanic Bibles at a scale that allowed them to spread the bad word.
