Trent following is desirable not because it's a high, sharp ratio but because it has these bursts of negative correlation at desirable times. The part of trent following that faltered was this ability to deliver some good returns every year, year after year. When the trends are clear, the old signals are pretty unbeatable so they canna catch on and off they go. But when the markets are difficult, range bound, not going anywhere, a lot of volatility, this sort of approach does better.
