When you were a student at Oxford, psychology was dominated by functional brain imaging. You became increasingly dissatisfied with the answer to questions about the brain. And so when I set up my own lab, I undertook to really focus on trying to understand computational principles. Demis Hausabis asked me early on in the process of setting up DeepMind if I wanted to be involved. That's how my interest has really kind of grown and blossomed over the last 10 years.
