Bruggen: Empire invites us to ask just which embraces of empire entangle us in the worship of the empire's gods. He says there is a place for using the resources and dealing with even the politics and economics of the empire but when it comes to the point where you're about right across that line and do valuing it and its priorities more than you do your faith then you have gone too far, he writes. Bruggen calls on those people whose job it is to teach and inform their parishioners to do so to teach them of the need for strong identity as Christians what that really means.
