The Problem With Taiwan and the US
No one in Taiwan thinks that mainland China is going to invade tomorrow or next year, right? There are people in the US and US policy circles that seriously think that Xi Jinping is going to try to incorporate Taiwan. Nobody I know of in Taiwan actually believes that this is on Xi's agenda. And the other thing is that no one is willing to declare a formal independence if it means a war.
