i was delighted to be the academic consultant on agara, two thousand and nine. The thoughtful actress rachel weis leaped at the role of hypatia,. an egyptian greek scholar in the early fourth century c e. She's a real historical figure, recently chosen for matthew paris great lives show by janis varufacis. In the film, hypatia attempts in vain to save the library's unique collection from destruction when the roman administration allows angry christians to destroy all the institutions. i think that very noble ambition lies behind our desire to day for libraries to symbolize, i a cosmopolitan and tolerant ideal.
