The History of Hat Lifting
Rep. Maverick said that hat lifting is quote, a survival of the vainest and most corrupt age in history end quote. The custom of raising the hat came down from the time when the night lifted his visor of his helmet when he rode by the ladies. A senator from Illinois named James Hamilton Lewis offered a historical counter argument. In 330 BC, a great Greek named Foshion tried to pass a law which would have relieved men from removing their helmets as a gesture of respect to women.
