The History of Fornier's Gangring

The ultimate overlooked, I think, part of the history of Fornier's gangring comes from Robert Robertson. In 1777, he published a case report of one of the sailors who got this really terrible infection in the scrotum and penis and perineum. He tied it to having had intercourse with someone 48 hours previously. This was an elderly ship's butcher. He drank a lot of alcohol. So these are risk factors that we sort of associate with Fornier’s gangring.
