What Is the Point of an Operating System?
The VACS was a machine specifically designed for multitasking tricks. The operating system has to know how to deal with virtual memory hardware. At this point, Unix was written in C, a language designed to be platform agnostic. With a minimal amount of work,Unix software could run on anything.
