The decadent movements were to a large extent indebted, looking back to romanticism. But they were also harbingers of a new kind of literature and a new way of being in the world. When we get to the early 1900s, the decadence aren't out and proud,. They're not a movement, but they're there and they kind of go global. The idea that you look for truth everywhere, but particularly in cities has been overturned.
