Jane was the only one of Henry's six who gave him a son. He didn't particularly love her any more than the others or even at all. In middle age, Henry grows increasingly destructive. Under influence of Thomas Cromwell he exploits break from Rome to seize church-owned land, property and valuables. Monasteries, abbeys and convents are looted, closed or destroyed. Precious Catholic manuscripts and entire monastic archives are confiscated. Oxford University is left without a library after its collection is burned. But the Reformation goes even deeper.
