Why Do We Need Data Bases?

In the early days of computing, many data bases were implemented exactly because somebody was tired of doing same thing in every project they were starting. In my opinion, main reason for preferring a data base over flat files is stora efficiency. The second one is like access efficiency, so records can be located in the smallest possible number of steps. And the third one is abda deficiency. So records obdates are performed in a way that minimizes the number of changes you would like to avoid putting extra strain on your hardware without any need to do that.
