Is the Internet Breaking Into a World of Conflicting Fiefdoms?

Prices are absolutely essential to the capitalist economy. Unless you have customers who are actually paying for your goods and services, you don't really have customers. The internet's now breaking into a set of conflicting fiefdoms and walled gardens. And I think this is fundamentally a breakdown of the internet dream that we all had at the beginning.
