In 19 70, our large main study community began to divide. After two years, the communities were two separate entities. The northern group was alled the casacala community. This northern group was much larger. It had eight adult males, 12 females and their young. By 19 73, researchers recognized the southe sub group as a separate community,. They called them cahama, after the valley that seemed to form the centre of their range. In early 19 74, the first attack was observed. When male champanzis on patrol, they gather together in a group. They don't make any noise, which is unusual for chimps.They stop frequently to look for signs
