Daedalus and Icarus
The ancient Greek storyteller Homer uses the term wine dark sea to describe the Mediterranean sea five times in the Iliad and twelve times in the Odyssey. Some scholars have theorized that the sea just looked different back then, and some think it was because the Greek language at that time did not have a word for blue. Others say it is just poetic, fancy talk.
