The Importance of Consent in California
The California Consumer Privacy Act requires GPR level consent for virtually any processing beyond what is necessary to provide the consumer requested product or service. The law has been interpreted very broadly to include a wide variety of scenarios, including third-party targeted advertising. A second provision that says anything related to sharing data requires a separate consent. This would essentially be a prohibition on data sales, which could include online advertising and cover just about any kind of personal data.
