After attending private schools and studying under the watchful eyes of tutors and governesses throughout girlhood, Dorothy went to Brynmore College. Despite her degree, Dorothy's real aspiration was to be a writer. While in Pennsylvania at Brynmore, Dorothy met and began a relationship with George C. Griskam, Jr. According to AmericanHeritage.com, George accompanied his parents when they traveled, and apparently his mother still bought all his shirts and ties.
