The Danson by Caroline Shaw
Caroline Shaw's Partita for Eight Voices is one of the most creative pieces to have been written in this century. The piece is structured in four movements, playing off dance movements that were made ubiquitous by Bach and his music for unaccompanied violin in cello. Unlike the alemande and the sarabande which wander around from place to place, this movement seems to be aiming towards a single point in the distance.
