The History of the Internet

Arpinet adopted the packet switching technology that was proposed by davies and baret, underpinned by mathematical work in the early 19 seventies. The network was built by rathion b b n technologies, originally bolt barnac and newman ink, an american research and development company based in cambridge, massachusetts. They warted contracts in 19 69 for development of the arpa net project, directed by robert taylor and managed by lawrence roberts. So it's safe to say that one of the initial use cases for the inner net was to share information amongst academic organizations.
