The idea that being inactive doesn't really do a great deal compared to physical activity or exercise is, is probably incorrect. Inactivity in itself is a physiological stressor that will cause adaptation. And I think if you can understand the biological basis of the impact of inactivity, you can then design studies focused on how to alleviate that.
