The Big House Up the Road for Sale

Fred Miller's sister spotted a house for sale on their way to school. He didn't want to buy it, but thinking his bid would be rejected anyway, he made an offer of just above the $220,000 asking price. "I thought because I was black that they were never. And surely they would never sell someone on his bike," says Miller. In May of 2020, Fred Miller purchased the fully furnished house plus 10 and a half acres of land from a family who had owned it since 1917.
