The Value of Hacks in Sports
A sport is a system of rules and players are looking for any possible advantage. Dick Fosbury revolutionized the high jump after winning gold at the 1968 Olympics by facing away from the bar while vaulting over it. The forward pass was once considered a hack, same for dunking a basketball and putting a curve on a hockey stick in hockey. There's also examples from baseball and ping pong and plenty of other sports.
