The Why and Why of Western Tonal Music

In 99% of the hymns and songs we sing, you will find this pattern played out. Why then not saying it was all a Christian influence? That must have something to do with how music operated for first time in many cultures. And I think if I were really courageous, I'd go a little further and say that doesn't take much more than one or two words on its own. It's called Western tonal music, or just Western music, and it operates according to certain principles - tension and resolution.
