I remember him once telling me how much his suits cost and it was kind of what I paid for a car. He kept talking about how good his relationship was with Mrs Thatcher. Was that your memory as a journalist? Not at all. Michael had a lot of powerful, significant people in the parliamentary party. You know, he didn't have that many in government, but he had quite a lot on the backbenches or in junior ministerial places.
