The bill will enable mines like Santos's barossa mine to circumvent our safeguard mechanism. Chevron's Gorgon gasmine carbon capture and storage has been a colossal failure, including 60 million of taxpayers' money. The deal does put a big dampener on the prospects of new gas projects going ahead because of the costs that will be imposed on projects to reduce their emissions.
