The History of Disagreement in Thailand

The rise of the military enabled the narrowing of political disagreement and the narrowing of participation around really important infrastructural projects. Many still felt their own ability to think independently and to disagree and to enact their own political aspirations remained intact. In Thailand, the history of disagreement really expanded through the student movements that began in 2020 and have continued in quite bold and direct confrontations throughout the last two years. And so in that sense, what disagreement becomes, it serves as a narrative function in the ethnography, but it also propels a kind of set of techniques that are actually indelible to the human, it's our capacity to disagree.
