How Do We Know How Old a Star Is?

Stars tend to be bluer when they are younger, because hotter stars don't last as long. The spectrum of light that tells us how much light is there at this frequency and how much at that frequency can tell you exactly the composition of the star. And what we see is that these stars tend to have a lot less metal in them than the stars that are forming to day,. like even our sun.
