Is Twitter the Portal to Semi-Internet Fame?

I don't think I became at all well-known until maybe like 2010, 2011. What was the the portal to this semi-internet fame then? Because I would have thought that Twitter gave you a massive boost. And yeah, I have no idea. It's all a bit of a blur. Like sometimes I look at the number of people who see my tweets and you know, or if I download Twitter on my phone, talking to 50,000 people is very strange.
