How to Tell if a Person Is Missing
If you see obvious signs of distress, if they're not at home, call family and friends or places they've frequented. Once you know that the person is just missing and not just avoiding people, then you can proceed to your next step, which is contact the police. Each state has different rules on how they react once they are informed. It may be 24 to 48 hours before they can start using their own resources.
