The best example of this is Oakley. Every tube station I went to, S-bar and U-bar and in Berlin, was covered in these ads, sign up to spam. This must have been a multi-million pounds of pain. The lesson to be learned from it is that brands don't do things like that because they know the ROI isn't worth it. So you've got to look beyond digital.
