Type 2 Diabetes - Is There a Correlation?
Sally Kohn: Some studies show an essential association between higher sugar sweetened beverage consumption and type two diabetes incidents or development. But even if you were to make all your food choices based on science alone, I don't think it would make sense to cut out all sugarSweetened beverages just based on the existing evidence because there's a lot more at play here than meets the eye. She says for people who already have diabetes, cutting out or severely limiting sugar generally is not actually needed. And in fact, it could backfire by putting you in a restrict binge cycle that's ultimately riskier for your health potentially rather than learning to have a peaceful and balanced relationship with sugar.
