Python has become very popular in the data engineering space, much to my surprise. I think glue being serverless is easier to work with than EMR traditionally and even much more so than an on-prem spark cluster or something else. But you've always got to bear in mind that at some point you're going to need the gallery that distributed knowledge of how those systems actually work.
