In the late seventies, Burney began making a name for himself as the go to nature sound guy for zoos and aquariums. In 19 83, on one of these trips, he heard something he'd never heard before: hyenas yowling. And it occurred to him, in his half sleep state, that what i was hearing was kind of like an orchestration. A sudden it sounded to me like an orchestra, like the creatures had organized themselves and were playing together like music.
