Reff Counting vs Tracing?
The trade off between reff counting and tracing is difficult to compare, says Yest. The benefit that you gettho is that memory can be reused much faster than it can be reused in a tracing system. Ref counting systems tend to detect when a piece of data is free and is available for reuse. Tracing garbage collection has lot of knobs to twiddle - like how often the collector should run.
