Is There a Right Answer?
Everything a religion advocates is an expression, a form of that fundamental. If you say I don't steal because the Bible says so, you are implicitly endorsing the idea that one must obey whatever God commands. In judging a viewpoint therefore the fundamental is the standard by which you do so. But if we're dealing with a smorgasbord of ideas like those of say the Republican Party, there is no fundamental. There is only a hash of views, perhaps some good and some bad.
