How Big Is the Amazon?

The size of the Amazon basin is around 7 million square kilometers. The rainforest itself, the actual trees, is around 5.5 million sq km. Deforestation rates have increased substantially over the last few decades. President Lula created a new legal framework to reduce deforestation from 2004 onwards.
