The Origins of Genetics

Nikolai Vavilov was one of the most remarkable and original scientists of the 20th century. He tried stopping famines through the exciting new field of genetics. The research institute with the starving scientists is now called the Vavilova All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Plant Industry, or VIR in Russian.
